WSU head coach Jake Dickert says Apple Cup 'needs to continue'

WSU head coach Jake Dickert says he also understands the part of the fan base that feels slighted by the Huskies leaving the Pac-12.

"It's going to be different being in September. Those are the things you kind of look at it and the bittersweet aspect of it. At the end of the day, this rivalry needs to continue. I do think that's important. Some of the other stuff involved around it? I get the reaction to it. I do because I feel sometimes the same way. We're excited. We want to play against the best. Period. Excited to play against a strong team and keep the Apple Cup tradition going," Coach Dickert said.

After this season, the Apple Cup will be considered a nonconference matchup that would be played earlier in the season, such as September for next year.

The Apple Cup has been a part of Washington's history for more than 100 years, and its created a lot of great moments.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
